LASTMA Responds to Fatal Truck Overturning in Lagos

Two container trucks, each laden with 20-foot containers, overturned at Mile 2, near Freeman Market, inward Apapa, Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her child. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that the victims were trapped beneath the trucks and their cargoes, suffering fatal injuries.
LASTMA personnel responded to the scene to evacuate the victims, recover the trucks, and manage traffic. The road was temporarily cordoned off, and motorists were diverted to prevent gridlock.
A crane and a high-capacity tow vehicle were deployed for the recovery operation, with police providing security. The remains of the victims were taken to the Police Mortuary in Yaba.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed condolences and called for a thorough investigation into the crash, urging compliance with road safety regulations among truck operators.
