Three Dead in Anambra Truck Crash on July 17, 2026

On July 17, 2026, at approximately 10 AM, a fatal road traffic accident occurred near St. Jude Catholic Church in Adazi Ani, along the Nnobi-Agulu-Awka road in Anambra State.

A Mercedes Benz 608 commercial truck, registered as XB270NNL, reportedly suffered a mechanical failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crashed into a roadside barricade, somersaulted, and subsequently caught fire, trapping the seven male occupants inside.

Eyewitnesses reported that community members and passersby immediately attempted to rescue those trapped. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) received a distress call at 10:35 AM and arrived at the scene by 10:45 AM, with a response time of ten minutes.

The incident resulted in three fatalities and four serious injuries. FRSC officials, including Margaret Onab and Bridget Asekhauno, expressed condolences to the victims' families and emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety.
