Gunmen Attack Benue Community, Two Killed in Violence

On Monday night, an attack by suspected armed herders in Atakpa Community, Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State, resulted in the deaths of two youths. The attack occurred as the youths attempted to repel the invaders, believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

Local sources indicated that the incident created significant fear among villagers, leading many to flee the community. Melvin Ejeh, the chairman of the local council, was unreachable for comments.

However, Udem Edet, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the attack, stating that one person was injured and receiving treatment at a hospital, while another individual was reported missing. This incident followed another attack in the region, where several people were reportedly killed in Edikwu and Ankpa communities in Apa Local Government Area just days prior.

The ongoing violence highlights the security challenges faced in the region.
