Two Pregnant IDPs Die Due to Lack of Healthcare in Benue

In Benue State, two pregnant internally displaced women, Dooshima (30) and Sumali Bless (28), died within five days due to severe abdominal pain and lack of access to adequate healthcare. Dooshima began experiencing abdominal pain on February 26, 2026, but her family could not afford proper medical care.

She was eventually taken to a clinic in Agagb but died shortly after. Similarly, Sumali Bless fell ill and could not access adequate care due to financial constraints, leading to her death.

Both women were not residing in official IDP camps but lived within host communities. Their deaths underscore the dire conditions faced by displaced families in Benue State, who struggle with limited access to healthcare, food, and basic necessities following attacks that forced them from their homes.

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency noted the need for urgent assistance for displaced persons, particularly in healthcare and welfare support.
