Benue State Enrolls 5,883 IDPs in Health Insurance Scheme

In response to the 2025 Yelewata attack, the Benue State Government, led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, has initiated a health insurance scheme that has enrolled 5,883 internally displaced persons (IDPs). This program aims to provide humanitarian assistance and facilitate the resettlement of affected families.

Solomon Iorpev, the Chief Media Adviser to the Governor, disclosed that the government is also distributing N56 million in cash support to 1,000 verified households, with each family receiving N50,000 to help meet basic needs such as food, medicine, and small-scale trade. Additionally, a special technical committee has been deployed to verify beneficiaries to ensure that every naira reaches its intended recipient.

The administration is also constructing 60 new two-bedroom homes and classroom blocks in Yelewata to replace overcrowded camp structures, with 53 of the 60 homes already reaching the lintel level. This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to restore stability and dignity to affected families.
