Two Sentenced to Death for Groom's Murder in Kano

On June 11, 2025, Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya were convicted in Kano for the murder of Yazid Haruna. Justice Amina Adamu presided over the case, where the prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, established that the defendants conspired to commit armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The attack was described as brutal, involving the use of long knives and machetes, during which the victim was stabbed multiple times and robbed of two mobile phones and N19,500. The court heard testimonies from three witnesses and reviewed medical reports that supported the prosecution's case.

Despite the defense's arguments, Justice Adamu found the defendants guilty under sections 97(1), 298(c), and 221 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State. Consequently, they were sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide, life imprisonment for armed robbery, and ten years for conspiracy.
