Two Arrested for Looting Truck Accident in Akwa Ibom

On May 10, 2026, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects involved in the looting of items from a truck that had fallen along the Calabar-Itu highway. The suspects, Adamu Hamza, a 19-year-old native of Maiduguri, Borno State, was found in possession of four stolen truck tires.

The police operation, led by DSP Timfon John, was prompted by credible intelligence regarding criminal activities at the accident scene. Further investigations led to the arrest of Anthony Jame, a tricycle operator, who allegedly used his vehicle to transport the stolen items.

The police spokesperson stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices who fled the scene. Baba Moham Azar, the Commissioner of Police in the state, warned criminals to desist from looting at accident scenes and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to enhance security.
