Anambra Agency Arrests Six for Illegal Levy Collection

The Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad Agency arrested six individuals for allegedly engaging in illegal revenue collection and extortion targeting traders in Onitsha's commercial hub. The arrests occurred during an enforcement operation aimed at eradicating unauthorized levy collection.

The suspects, identified as Chukwuka Ezza from Ebonyi State, Chinwez from Anambra State, Uch Nweke from Ebonyi State, Eken Onyedimma from Imo State, Anakw Uchenna from Enugu State, and Ugochukwu Ukadik from Abia State, were apprehended for unlawfully collecting levies from commercial operators. Following preliminary investigations, the suspects were arraigned in a magistrate court in Onitsha North Local Government Area, where they were granted bail under stringent conditions, including a bond of 200,000 Naira and a fine of 300,000 Naira, with a case adjourned to July 1, 2026, for further hearing.

The agency reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against illegal revenue collection and urged residents to report any cases of extortion.
