Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two LG Chairmen for Misconduct

The Zamfara State House of Assembly suspended two local government council chairmen, Mannir Mu Azu of Kaura Namoda and Umar Faru of Bukkuyum, due to alleged financial misconduct. This decision was made during a plenary session on Wednesday, where a report from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was presented by Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who serves as the committee's vice chairman.

The House unanimously adopted the committee's recommendations, with Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki Kurya explaining that the suspensions were a result of the chairmen's failure to honor an invitation to clarify the expenditures of funds allocated to their councils. Their refusal to appear was viewed as a serious breach of legislative procedure and oversight responsibilities.

The suspensions take immediate effect and will remain in force pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into financial activities across the state's 14 local government councils for the 2025 fiscal year. Further disciplinary actions may be taken based on the findings related to the management of public funds.
