Tyla Removes Lagos from Tour After Nigerian Backlash

South African singer Tyla has quietly removed Lagos from her 2026 world tour itinerary after facing backlash from Nigerians. The Lagos concert was initially part of her global tour, but it has been omitted without any public explanation from Tyla or her management.

This decision follows significant criticism from Nigerians who argued that the concert announcement coincided with reports of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in South Africa. Many social media users called for a boycott of the show, insisting that South African entertainers should not receive support in Nigeria amid these issues.

The controversy also reignited discussions about Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, whose performances in South Africa were canceled due to visa challenges involving her team. Public figures, including Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, have urged Nigerian authorities to adopt a reciprocal approach to ensure fair treatment for Nigerian entertainers.

Activist Martins Otse opposed Tyla's performance, while Omoyele Sowore argued against holding Tyla accountable for the actions of others.
