Tyla Excludes Lagos from World Tour Amid Xenophobia Concerns

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla Laura Seethal, known as Tyla, has excluded Lagos from her APOP World Tour schedule following increasing controversy over xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa. A review of her updated tour itinerary on July 31 revealed that the Nigerian concert, originally planned for December 22, was removed without any official announcement.

This decision came after Tyla had previously announced Lagos as the sole Nigerian destination for the tour, which had excited music fans but also sparked heated debates on social media. Many Nigerians linked the concert to recent reports of attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa, leading to calls for a boycott.

Prominent voices, including former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, argued against the boycott, stating that artists should not be held accountable for the actions of others. Despite some support, pressure mounted online, with activists like Martins Otse threatening to mobilize against the concert, emphasizing solidarity against xenophobic violence.
