UBA and ANPA Boost Diaspora Healthcare Investment

United Bank for Africa (UBA) and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America (ANPA) are championing healthcare investment for the Nigerian diaspora. Anant Rao, UBA's head of diaspora banking, presented a compelling case at the 2026 ANPA Carolina Symposium held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The symposium convened 170 healthcare professionals to discuss issues impacting communities across North America, the Caribbean, and Africa, particularly among people of Nigerian descent. Rao encouraged attendees to expand their contributions beyond remittances towards long-term institutional building and financial infrastructure in Nigeria's healthcare sector.

He introduced the ANPA-UBA Diaspora Healthcare Investment Platform, designed to channel diaspora capital into specialized hospitals, diagnostic centers, telemedicine infrastructure, and medical training institutions in Nigeria. Rao proposed a memorandum of understanding between UBA and ANPA to collaborate on six strategic pillars, including quarterly financial education sessions and a dedicated healthcare infrastructure fund.

UBA aims to deepen engagement with the Nigerian American medical community and enhance healthcare development in Nigeria.
