UBEC Launches 10-Year Education Roadmap in October

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) will commence full implementation of its 10-Year Universal Basic Education (UBE) Roadmap, covering 2026–2035, in the first week of October. Dr Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, announced this during a consultative workshop in Abuja with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and UBEC directors.

The commission introduced the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAPMS), a digital platform aimed at enhancing planning, transparency, and monitoring of basic education projects across Nigeria. The new approach requires states to assess the complete needs of schools before action plans are approved.

Garba also revealed a revised matching grant formula that allows states to allocate UBEC funds based on specific educational needs, moving away from a focus on new infrastructure. The BEAPMS will also involve community monitoring of school projects, with financial details published on UBEC’s website for greater transparency.
