Uber to Lay Off 10% of Workforce, Exits Nigeria and Uganda

Uber announced on Wednesday that it will reduce its workforce by about 10%, which equates to approximately 3,400 employees, as part of significant organizational changes. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi communicated this decision in a message to employees, stating that the layoffs are intended to create a simpler and faster operational structure, reducing coordination delays within the company.

Uber, which has around 34,000 employees and operates in over 70 countries, aims for a leaner organization that will facilitate clearer ownership and quicker decision-making. In addition to the layoffs, Uber is shutting down its operations in Nigeria and Uganda, having already exited Tanzania earlier this year.

The company has faced criticism from drivers regarding compensation issues, and Khosrowshahi's message also indicated a focus on reorganizing decision-making processes within the business.
