Carragher Blames Konaté for Liverpool's PSG Defeat

In the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night, Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Former England defender Jamie Carragher attributed the loss to Ibrahima Konaté, stating he did not meet expectations.

Liverpool's performance was notably poor, with only 26 percent possession and no shots on target. Carragher highlighted that the team primarily focused on surviving PSG's attack, opting for a back five formation that he believed was incorrectly implemented.

He criticized Virgil van Dijk's positioning within the back three, suggesting it left gaps in defense. Despite acknowledging Van Dijk's overall quality, Carragher felt that the defensive setup exposed weaknesses.

He urged manager Jürgen Klopp to reconsider using the back five system, emphasizing that it was not solely Liverpool's tactical errors that led to the defeat, but also PSG's exceptional performance.
