Vinicius Jr. accused Gianluca Prestianni of racially abusing him, while Mourinho claimed that the Brazilian incited home fans with his goal celebration, referencing Benfica's legend Eusebio to argue that the Portuguese club is not racist.

Obi, who played under Mourinho during two spells at Chelsea, expressed his disappointment on a podcast, stating that he expected better from his former manager. He emphasized that there is no place for racism in football and criticized Mourinho's "clumsy" comments, urging that such matters should be investigated thoroughly before conclusions are drawn.
