UEFA Suspends Benfica's Prestianni Over Racism Claims

UEFA has announced a provisional suspension for Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni after allegations of racial abuse were made by Real Madrid winger Vinicius during the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 playoff tie last week. Vinicius claimed that Prestianni directed a racial slur at him during the encounter in Portugal.

As a result, Prestianni will not participate in the return leg of the Champions League playoff against Real Madrid next week while investigations into the allegations continue. The UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector is overseeing the inquiry into the incident, which falls under Article 14 concerning discriminatory behavior.

In the first leg of the playoff, Real Madrid secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Vinicius.
