FIFA Accuses UEFA of Smear Campaign Over World Cup Deal

FIFA has accused UEFA of engaging in a smear campaign against its administration in response to UEFA's legal actions concerning Gianni Infantino's unsuccessful plan to sell a portion of the World Cup to investors. UEFA filed legal documents in the USA seeking a warrant to obtain documents from FIFA, indicating intentions to initiate a criminal procedure in Switzerland against Infantino for alleged 'criminal mismanagement' and undervaluation of the World Cup.

FIFA argues that UEFA's request for documents is linked to an uncertain overseas procedure and maintains that the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan was straightforward, intended to be executed with the cooperation of member nations and the FIFA Council. FIFA further claims that UEFA's opposition to the FFE plan stems from concerns over increased competition among European clubs and tournaments, as wealthier footballing nations would gain more advantages.

The $4.2 billion deal with venture capitalist Joshua Kushner and his company Thrive has been abandoned following significant backlash after its announcement. UEFA has not commented on FIFA's response.
