UEFA Launches Clearline to Clarify VAR Decisions

UEFA has introduced Clearline, a new public platform aimed at providing fans with clear guidance on the criteria and processes behind VAR (Video Assistant Referee) decisions. This digital explainer guide was conceived by UEFA's chief of refereeing, Roberto Rosetti, to ensure consistency in refereeing across all UEFA competitions.

Clearline will allow supporters, players, teams, and journalists to access information on crucial VAR incidents, including offside calls, penalties, red cards, and mistaken identity cases. After each Champions League match, users can visit the UEFA website to review how controversial incidents were handled, supported by a video library containing examples of referee decisions.

This initiative was established following discussions among refereeing chiefs from Europe’s five major leagues to create a universal refereeing language. UEFA believes that Clearline will enhance trust in officiating by making referees' decisions more accessible and understandable to everyone involved in the sport.
