Uganda Discharges Last Ebola Patient, Marks Recovery Milestone

Ugandan authorities confirmed the discharge of the last Ebola virus patient from Mulago National Referral Hospital, located in the capital, on Thursday. Alan Kasujja, a spokesperson for the Ugandan government, stated that this discharge initiates the World Health Organization's required waiting period to declare the outbreak officially over.

The outbreak, linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain, has resulted in two deaths and five local cases, with additional cases identified as imported. As of Thursday, the number of recoveries stood at two, according to data from the Ugandan health ministry portal.

This outbreak is noted as the third worst on record, with the Democratic Republic of Congo having reported 2,011 confirmed cases and deaths related to Ebola. The situation reflects ongoing challenges in managing public health emergencies in the region.
