UI Staff Donate N6 Million to Oyo School Attack Victims

On Wednesday, retired and serving staff of the University of Ibadan donated approximately N6 million to support victims of the coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, which occurred on May 15, 2026. The donation was presented at the Office of the Inspector-General of Education in Ogbomoso Zone.

Prof. Ezekiel Ayoola, Chairman of the University of Ibadan Ad Hoc Committee on Support for Oriire Rescued Abductees, led the delegation and emphasized the academic community's solidarity with the victims.

Over 40 schoolchildren and teachers were abducted during the attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School, regaining their freedom on July 10, 2026, after 56 days in captivity.

The funds were raised through voluntary contributions from various university staff, including the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale.

Ayoola commended the efforts of security agencies and the National Assembly for their roles in the rescue and support of affected families.
