UK Allows Income Combination for Family Visa Applications

The United Kingdom government has announced that couples applying for a family visa as partners or spouses can combine their incomes to meet the minimum income requirement of £29,000 (approximately ₦56.5 million). This rule enables both the applicant and their UK-based partner to count their individual earnings towards the combined total.

For instance, if one partner earns £15,000 and the other earns £14,000, their combined income meets the requirement, provided they submit acceptable documentation. Applicants must present official proof of income, such as payslips, employer letters, or bank statements, to verify their declared earnings.

This minimum income requirement specifically applies to those seeking a UK family visa based on a partner or spousal relationship. The UK government has indicated that not meeting the financial requirement is one of the most frequent reasons for family visa application refusals, underscoring the importance of accurate income calculation and documentation prior to submission.
