UK Exempts Certain Foreigners from Family Visa Income Rule

The UK government has confirmed that two categories of foreign nationals applying for a family visa as a partner or spouse are exempt from the standard minimum income requirement of £29,000 per year. The first category includes applicants whose UK partners receive certain disability or carer's benefits, such as Disability Living Allowance and Personal Independence Payment.

These applicants must demonstrate they can support their household without relying on public funds. The second category consists of foreign nationals who applied as partners before April 11, 2024, who only need to prove a combined household income of £18,600 per year.

For those with children, additional income requirements apply, but if the total exceeds £29,000, only £29,000 needs to be proven. Applicants can also use savings to meet financial requirements, depending on how their income was earned.
