UK Appoints Ed Miliband as World Bank Governor

The United Kingdom has appointed Ed Miliband, the current Foreign Secretary, as the country’s Governor to the World Bank. This appointment, announced by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to strengthen Britain's leadership in international development, climate finance, and global economic cooperation.

Miliband is expected to attend the World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok in October, where global leaders will discuss significant economic and development issues. The UK government stated that Miliband's role underscores its commitment to addressing poverty, climate change, economic stability, food insecurity, and energy price shocks through international partnerships.

Alongside Miliband, Kirsty McNeill has been appointed as the new Minister for Development, overseeing the UK’s engagement with four Regional Development Banks. Miliband replaces Yvette Cooper in this role and has expressed his commitment to enhancing the UK’s leadership in development and climate action.

World Bank President Ajay Banga welcomed Miliband’s appointment, highlighting the UK's valued partnership in global economic growth.
