UK Nigerians Earning £2,600 Worse Off Than ₦60,000 Workers

During an appearance on Morayo Afolabi-Brown's show, Daniel Bwala, a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, stated that Nigerians in the UK earning £2,600 to £2,800 monthly are financially worse off than those earning ₦60,000 in Nigeria. Bwala explained that the income of UK-based Nigerians quickly erodes due to high living expenses, leading to significant hardship.

He noted that many Nigerians with strong academic qualifications end up in menial jobs in the UK, likening their situation to modern-day slavery. Bwala also urged the federal government to introduce healthcare interventions to alleviate pressures on citizens at home, including a 50% subsidy for dialysis and free caesarean section services in federal hospitals.

He emphasized the need for such measures, especially in light of the challenges faced by Nigerians, including poverty, insecurity, and unemployment, which drive many to leave the country.
