Nigerian Sentenced to 7.5 Years for Stabbing Partner

Osarenkhoe Atutie, a 32-year-old Nigerian, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the attempted murder of a 30-year-old woman in Leith, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The sentencing took place at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, following Atutie's guilty plea to the violent offense.

The incident occurred on the morning of November 11, 2025, in the Duke Street area, where Atutie approached the victim, known to him, and repeatedly stabbed her in the head and body with a knife. Members of the public intervened, apprehending Atutie nearby and restraining him until police arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and later discharged. Detective Sergeant Craig McMillan described the attack as “particularly harrowing” and commended the public for their actions, stating their intervention likely saved the woman's life.

McMillan emphasized that tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Police Scotland.
