UK Launches Digital Hub to Enhance Connectivity in Ogun

On September 2, the United Kingdom Government inaugurated a community digital connectivity hub in Siun, located in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. This hub is part of a broader initiative that includes 10 community-centred connectivity hubs supported by the UK Government through its Digital Access Programme.

The Initiative for Digital Inclusion (IDI) is responsible for implementing this project. The hub is designed to provide reliable internet access, digital learning, skills development, entrepreneurship support, and access to information and online services.

Notably, the Siun hub was constructed using a community-led model, involving local residents in its construction, ownership, management, and plans for long-term sustainability. Grace Bell, the First Secretary for Economic Partnership at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), stated that the project exemplifies how communities can influence sustainable digital development.

The facility incorporates locally sourced materials and sustainable energy solutions, reflecting a commitment to resilience and environmental sustainability.
