UK Government Enforces Strict Cabin Bag Rules for Flights

The UK Government has published official cabin bag restrictions for travelers flying to Britain, emphasizing the need for passengers to verify their hand luggage contents. Prohibited items include sharp objects such as knives with pointed or sharp blades exceeding 6cm, scissors with blades longer than 6cm, and corkscrews, which must be placed in checked luggage.

A more serious category includes items banned from both hand luggage and checked bags, such as non-safety matches and pyrotechnics like fireworks and flares. Cigarette lighters are allowed only if kept in a plastic liquids bag on the passenger's person.

The guidelines clarify that small scissors with blades under 6cm, disposable razors, nail clippers, and knitting needles are permitted in cabin bags. Additionally, standard umbrellas and mobility aids must pass through security screening.

Passengers with battery-powered wheelchairs or large musical instruments should contact their airline prior to arriving at the airport for specific arrangements.
