Australia Prohibits Certain Items for Incoming Travelers

The Australian Border Force has published an official guide outlining items that travellers are prohibited from bringing into Australia. This guide, available on the Australian Department of Home Affairs website, includes a variety of categories such as food and drink, and weapons.

Specifically, fresh fruits like apples, mandarins, and oranges are listed under the "Don't Bring" category, meaning they cannot be carried through the border regardless of quantity or purpose. Additionally, homemade food items, including meals and cakes, are also restricted, which may surprise many travellers.

Food leftover from flights or sea voyages is similarly prohibited. In the weapons category, pepper spray is flagged as a prohibited item, and travellers carrying it for personal protection will not be allowed to bring it into Australia, irrespective of its legality in their home country.

Those found with prohibited items may face confiscation or further border action. Travellers are advised to consult the full guide before departure.
