The five-year route requires continuous residence in the UK on a family visa for at least five years, with financial self-sufficiency required. The ten-year route allows for ten years of residence, including time spent on other qualifying visas, without financial requirements.

The partner-first route necessitates that the parent first secure a partner visa if they have a partner in the UK before applying for ILR. All parents aged 18 to 64 must pass the Life in the UK Test and meet English language requirements.
