UK PM Burnham Announces £2 Bus Fare Cap with Bus Aunty

Nigerian-born content creator Bemi Orojuogun, widely recognized as "Bus Aunty," met with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to announce a significant policy change regarding bus fares. On July 22, 2023, Burnham revealed that single bus fares outside London would be capped at £2 starting January 1, 2027, replacing the current £3 limit.

This fare cap is intended to ease the financial burden on commuters, especially in rural and coastal areas where fares can exceed £10. In a video announcement, Burnham emulated Orojuogun's signature style by filming with a bus in the background.

He acknowledged previous skepticism about lowering bus fares and referenced his earlier success with a similar fare cap during his tenure as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Orojuogun expressed her support for the fare cap, calling it a fantastic idea, and thanked Burnham directly.

She later shared the video on her social media, labeling the fare cap as "very good news" for commuters.
