Lekan Ewenla Wins African HMO CEO Award 2026

Lekan Ewenla, the Managing Director of Ultimate Health HMO, was awarded the African Health Maintenance Organization Chief Executive Officer Leadership Award 2026. This recognition highlights his outstanding performance in the health insurance industry, driven by innovation and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

In an interview, Ewenla discussed the importance of health insurance design in making healthcare affordable and equitable for Nigerians. He noted that approximately 75% of Nigerians operate in the informal sector, which necessitates the adoption of group and individual family social health insurance programs.

Ewenla emphasized the need for collaboration with stakeholders, including the National Health Insurance Authority, to enhance healthcare access. He also mentioned a recent meeting in July in Lagos with major leaders in the informal sector to discuss enrollment programs aimed at improving health insurance coverage.

Ewenla commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for its commitment to improving Nigeria's health indicators and ensuring compliance with health insurance regulations.
