Umahi Warns Heavy Vehicles Against Damaging New Roads

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, issued a warning to heavy-duty vehicles against parking on newly constructed roads, stating that such practices pose a direct threat to the durability of infrastructure nationwide. During an inspection tour of the Aleto Bridge project, Umahi highlighted that no road infrastructure is designed to withstand prolonged static loads from heavy vehicles, which can lead to total destruction of the roads.

The total project cost exceeds 230 billion naira, with phases allocated as 156 billion naira for phase one and 83 billion naira for phase two. Umahi expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work delivered by the contractor, RCC, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive intervention to sustain the project.

The Aleto Bridge project features modern concrete pavement technology and solar-powered lighting, with a mentorship program for young Nigerian engineers. The project is expected to be completed by May 25, 2026, with full completion by August 2026.

Umahi urged Nigerians, particularly road users and transport operators, to take responsibility for safeguarding public infrastructure.
