Umahi Warns Against Misuse of New Roads by Heavy Vehicles

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, raised serious concerns regarding the misuse of newly constructed roads by heavy-duty vehicles, specifically fuel tankers, during an inspection of the Aleto Bridge project in River State over the weekend. He warned that parking such vehicles on roads poses a direct threat to their durability and lifespan, as no road infrastructure is designed to withstand prolonged static loads from heavy vehicles.

Umahi expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work delivered by the contractor on the Aleto Bridge project, which incorporates modern concrete pavement technology and solar-powered lighting. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention to sustain the project.

Umahi also disclosed plans for a mentorship program for young Nigerian engineers, championed by President Tinubu, aimed at developing future leaders in technical projects. The Carriageway project is expected to be completed by May 25, 2026, with the first phase fully completed by August 2026.
