Umahi Denies Police Deployment Over Campaign Debt Claims

David Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State, has denied allegations that he deployed police officers against Traci Ohiri to resolve a disagreement over campaign debt. Umahi's statement, issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Franci Nwaze, characterized Ohiri's claims as inconsistent and lacking coherence.

He emphasized that the police acted within their constitutional mandate to maintain law and order in response to a complaint submitted by Ohiri's lawyer. The controversy arose following a viral video where activist Omoyele Sowore confronted Umahi about the allegations of assault and non-payment for campaign materials.

Umahi declined to engage in a prolonged exchange with Sowore, stating that the police investigation would determine the outcome of the matter. He expressed his commitment to transparency and respect for the rule of law, while also criticizing Sowore's actions as an attempt to dramatize the situation for public attention.
