Umunneochi Women Protest Land Dispute at Abia Government House

On Tuesday, women from Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State staged a peaceful protest at the Abia Government House in Umuahia, urging Governor Alex Otti to intervene in a land dispute with neighboring communities, Umuacha and Umuobi. The protest, led by Amalato Ukwu, was prompted by allegations of repeated arrests of husbands and children by security operatives, which have left families displaced and living in fear.

Chief Chidi Okoro, speaking on behalf of the women, lamented the ongoing harassment and destruction of crops due to encroachment on their farmland. Janet Nwankwo addressed government officials, tracing the dispute's origins to historical resettlement arrangements.

The conflict has reportedly persisted for decades, disrupting the community's normal life. The women named several individuals allegedly detained, including Christian Obidik and Chidiebub Alaebo.

Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff to the Governor, assured the women that their concerns would be addressed, emphasizing the government's commitment to justice and peace among communities.
