UN CSW70 Highlights Justice and Empowerment for Women

The 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) concluded with a strong affirmation of the need to advance justice for women and girls, recognizing it as a cornerstone for sustainable development and peace. The discussions highlighted the importance of translating global commitments into real impacts at the grassroots level, particularly through social support initiatives in Abuja and collaborations with global partners.

The session emphasized that access to justice must extend beyond legal systems to address structural barriers such as poverty and discrimination. Key outcomes included a focus on building the next generation of female leaders and economic empowerment pathways.

Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, President of the Helplin Social Support Initiative, underscored the necessity of integrating economic empowerment with justice systems and expanding grassroots legal awareness.

The CSW70 called for coordinated responses to gender-based violence and highlighted the importance of education and technology in empowering girls. The session concluded with a roadmap for implementing these initiatives locally, reinforcing the commitment to gender equality.
