UN Calls for Action at Africa Social Impact Summit 2026

Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, called on African leaders to translate commitments into actionable measures for development at the fifth Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS 2026). The summit, themed ‘Financing for Development: Building Resilience and Transforming Emerging Economies,’ was co-convened by the Sterling One Foundation, the United Nations in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the Lagos State Government.

Mohammed highlighted Africa's potential for prosperity through talent and innovation but stressed the need for bold leadership and strategic investments. Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to policies that attract investment and drive inclusive growth.

Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Dr.

Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the importance of investing in people and infrastructure. Mrs.

Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation, described ASIS as a platform for catalyzing action through partnerships. Prof.

Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka announced the launch of the Africa Social Impact Network to institutionalize collaboration for Africa's economic transformation.
