UN Deputy Chief Advocates Leadership Lessons in Africa

On Wednesday, Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, visited the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute (OOLI) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she stressed the importance of Africa learning from past leaders to cultivate the next generation of ethical and visionary leaders. Mohammed described OOLI as a vital platform for preserving and discussing leadership experiences.

She stated, “Africa as a continent must draw lessons from the experiences of past leaders.” Following her address, she held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of OOLI, focusing on peacebuilding, sustainable development, youth leadership, and governance. Obasanjo highlighted that OOLI aims to ensure leadership development in Africa is grounded in experience and scholarship.

The visit was also seen as an endorsement of OOLI’s efforts in leadership development, with Prof. Samuel Daramola noting its significance for future leaders across Africa.
