UN Security Council Addresses Iran Conflict and Civilian Attacks

On March 27, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has escalated since a joint military action by the United States and Israel began on February 28. The meeting, requested by Russia, aimed to address recent strikes on civilian infrastructure, particularly a tragic incident in Minab where a school was reportedly hit, resulting in the deaths of 160 children.

Preliminary findings from a U.S. military investigation indicated that the tragedy was caused by a targeting error involving a cruise missile. This incident has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for accountability.

The conflict has disrupted shipping activities in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about potential economic fallout, especially in the energy market.
