IMO to Evacuate 11,000 Sailors from Strait of Hormuz

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), led by Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, is set to evacuate 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. This large-scale operation is crucial for ensuring maritime security and restoring safe navigation in the region.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last week includes guarantees regarding Iran's nuclear weapons program, which will be inspected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). US President Donald Trump stated that Iran must comply with the highest level of nuclear inspections.

The IMO's evacuation plan includes two temporary routes for vessels, with daily reports on ship movements. The situation has severely impacted global oil prices, which have risen above $100 per barrel due to the conflict.

Since the attacks began in February, at least 172 vessels have traveled through the Strait, with the number of daily crossings now below pre-conflict averages.
