NUPRC's Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan Revamps Nigeria's Oil Sector

Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), is leading initiatives to revitalize Nigeria's upstream oil industry. Under her leadership, the NUPRC aims to restore oil production, attract investments, and strengthen regulatory credibility.

The commission has successfully conducted Nigeria's 2025 licensing round, receiving bids from various entities, including international oil companies (IOCs) and indigenous firms. As of June 2026, Nigeria's combined crude oil and condensate output reached 1.735 million barrels per day, exceeding the OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day.

This output level is the highest since April 2020, attributed to improved operational stability and the absence of major infrastructural disruptions. Additionally, gas production has also increased, with non-associated gas production slightly surpassing associated gas production for the first time.

Eyesan emphasizes the need for a predictable regulatory environment to foster investor confidence and has outlined three strategic priorities to drive growth and revenue optimization in the sector.
