NUPRC Identifies Key Challenges in Nigeria's Oil Sector

Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), identified infrastructure limitations and asset integrity concerns as significant challenges facing Nigeria's oil and gas industry during a meeting in Abuja. She stated that despite these limitations, the commission is committed to ensuring Nigeria optimizes its crude oil production, with the potential to produce 1.9 million barrels per day, although current production has peaked at 1.86 million barrels per day.

Eyesan discussed the need for collaboration with the Nigeria Revenue Service, led by Dr. Zacch Adedeji, to promote transparency and enhance oil and gas revenue collection.

She praised the reforms initiated by the NRS and expressed a commitment to work together to increase government revenue sustainably. Additionally, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, expressed support for the African Petroleum Regulatory Forum (AFRIPERF), which aims to harmonize oil and gas regulations across Africa and boost investment in the continent's energy sector.
