UNESCO Praises Otti's Education Reforms in Abia State

UNESCO, represented by Dr. Jean Paul Ngome Abiaga, praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti for prioritizing education and human capital development during a visit to Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The commendation highlighted Otti's administration's reforms, which have laid a strong foundation for improving learning outcomes. Notably, Otti's government allocates 20% of its budget to the education sector.

UNESCO plans to collaborate closely with the state government, particularly in health education, having already trained 1,000 teachers and engaged 700 community religious leaders on HIV health awareness. Otti's administration has introduced free compulsory education, which has significantly increased school enrollment.

He reiterated the commitment to further reduce the number of out-of-school children and enhance educational infrastructure, including the introduction of a smart school curriculum. Otti expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with UNESCO to strengthen the education sector in Abia State.
