Unfulfilled Promises Threaten Super Falcons' Success

Former players of the Nigeria women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, have expressed concerns that the Federal Government's unfulfilled promises could undermine the team's efforts to secure an 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco and qualify for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup. During a meeting in Chicago, members of the United Ex-Super Falcons Worldwide highlighted that the government has not delivered on its promise of $100,000, land allocations, and other rewards for each player, one year after the team's success.

Patience Avre, a former player, stated that the lack of communication regarding these promises has negatively impacted the morale of current players. She emphasized the need for the government to motivate the players to avoid international embarrassment.

The National Sports Commission attributed the delay in fulfilling these promises to the postponement of the team’s camping program ahead of the 2026 WAFCON.
