Omidiran Urges Super Falcons to Focus on World Cup Bid

Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), called on the Super Falcons to move past their disappointment from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and concentrate on securing a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This statement was released by FCC Spokesperson Ademola Lawrence on Wednesday in Abuja, prior to the Super Falcons' crucial playoff match against South Africa scheduled for Thursday.

Omidiran characterized the playoff as a chance for the nine-time African champions to respond positively after their WAFCON campaign ended with a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon in Morocco. She praised the players and coaching staff for their efforts and urged them to remain resilient and united.

Omidiran emphasized the importance of the playoff for Nigeria's World Cup aspirations and encouraged the players to approach the match with renewed determination. She also appealed to Nigerians for continued support, stating that one defeat does not diminish the team's achievements.
