Super Falcons Captain Ajibade Reacts to WAFCON Exit

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade lamented Nigeria's disappointing performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon. This loss also meant that Nigeria, under the management of Justine Madugu, missed out on an automatic qualification spot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Additionally, a subsequent 2-1 defeat to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana further denied the 10-time African champions a chance to compete in the inter-confederation playoffs for World Cup qualification. Ajibade reflected on the changing landscape of women's football in Africa, stating the importance of preparation for future tournaments.

She expressed gratitude for the lessons learned and emphasized the need for the team to improve and not become complacent, acknowledging the fierce competition in the sport.
