UNIABUJA Senate Calls for Dissolution of Governing Council Over Alleged Manipulation

The Senate members of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) have petitioned the Federal Ministry of Education, accusing the Governing Council of manipulating the Vice-Chancellor appointment process. They claim that the Council violated guidelines by not following the prescribed steps and selecting a candidate with insufficient experience.

The Senate members are calling for the immediate dissolution and reconstitution of the Council to ensure a fair and transparent appointment process. Despite the Council's actions, the Senate remains steadfast in seeking corrective measures to uphold the integrity of the appointment process.

The controversy arose when Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi was declared the winner despite having only two years of experience as a professor, contrary to the required ten years.

The Senate representatives rejected the selection process as illegal and demanded a fair and just procedure. The situation has led to a loss of faith in the Governing Council's competence and adherence to rules and procedures.
