UNICEF Praises Sokoto's Child Development Initiatives

During a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmadu Aliyu at the Government House in Sokoto, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell commended the Sokoto State administration for its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children and women. She highlighted the state's significant efforts in literacy, vocational training, mental health services, routine immunization, and nutrition initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of children and young people.

Russell expressed her belief that Nigeria has the potential to become a global model for political leadership in child welfare. She reaffirmed UNICEF's commitment to supporting Sokoto State in strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery.

Deputy Governor Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir welcomed the UNICEF delegation and expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership.

The Sokoto State government has prioritized investments in healthcare, education, and water supply, including the recruitment of 1,500 nurses and midwives and the establishment of child-friendly centers and vocational training programs.
