UNICEF and Jigawa State Renew Commitment to Child Welfare

UNICEF and the Jigawa State government have renewed their commitment to addressing child poverty, with a focus on enhancing health, education, and nutrition for children across the state. This pledge was made during a visit by Mr. Shafeeq Ur Rehman, the newly appointed chief of UNICEF's Kano field office, to Governor Umar Namadi at the government house in Dutse on Friday.

Governor Namadi commended Jigawa for its consistent investment in children's welfare and described the state as a model for human development. He expressed optimism that Mr. Shafeeq's leadership would strengthen the long-standing partnership between UNICEF and the Jigawa State government.

The governor acknowledged UNICEF's invaluable support in various sectors that directly impact children's well-being. He highlighted the success of the Masaki nutrition program aimed at tackling child malnutrition and improving maternal and child health outcomes.

Governor Namadi also noted Jigawa's progress in becoming a leading open defecation-free state in the country.
